Help the A-State Trumpet Ensemble Compete at the 2023 National Trumpet Competition!
On December of 2022, the A-State Trumpet Ensemble Fantasia completed a video screening audition for the National Trumpet Competition. Founded in 1991, The National Trumpet Competition (NTC) is an annual competition that is the largest instrumental competition in the world. Over 12,000 students have performed and competed at NTC. The competition has several categories, one of which is the Collegiate Trumpet Ensemble Division. In addition to the competition, the event includes concerts and classes with artists from all over the world including Karin Bliznik – Former Principal Trumpet, St. Louis Symphony, James Brody, Director of the CU Wellness for Musicians Program, Colorado Symphony Trumpet Section, among many others.
On January 20, 2023, we learned that the A-State Trumpet Ensemble advanced to the quarterfinals of this prestigious national level, peer-reviewed and juried competition. This is the second year in a row that we have made it to this point, and we are the only university in the state of Arkansas that was selected. The date and location of this event are March 25-27, 2023, in Boulder, CO at the University of Colorado – Boulder.
We will be competing against some of the largest and most respected university music programs in the continent including the University of Colorado Boulder, McGill University, Baylor University, UCLA, University of Cincinnati, Vanderbilt University Virginia Commonwealth University, Ithaca College, University of Michigan, DePaul University, Texas Tech University, Florida State University, Michigan State University, University of North Texas and others.
The A-State students that will be competing include Audrey Alpha, Rebecca Wertenberger, Brody King, Carlos Mejia and Cody Daughertee.
